The Opportunity 

  • High-growth, well-established lower mid-market specialty minerals company with exceptional reputation & differentiated products sold into Abrasive Blast Media, Foundry Products, Roofing Materials and Specialty Aggregates market segments.

  • Lead from the front with a high level of autonomy. Report directly to the President, who is not a micromanager and prefers to hire strong direct reports. 
  • Work from your home office, with ~50% travel to primarily western states. Must live close to a major airport. 

What You’ll Do 

  • Develop and implement strategic sales plans for you and the sales team to achieve company objectives and expand market share across various segments.  
  • Lead, mentor, and motivate the sales team to deliver exceptional results and foster a culture of trust, teamwork, high performance and accountability. 
  • Prepare and present sales forecasts, budgets, and reports to senior management, highlighting key achievements, challenges, and opportunities. 
  • Identify new business opportunities and forge strategic partnerships with agencies, contractors, and distributors to drive sales growth. 
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to develop effective promotional campaigns and sales materials to support sales efforts 
  • Analyze market trends, customer feedback, and competitor activity to identify opportunities for product development and enhancement. 
  • Seek out and target new customers and new sales opportunities, initiate plans to approach and secure new business for the organization, including expansion into new territories 
  • Represent the company at industry events, trade shows, and conferences to promote our brand and generate leads 

The Profile 

  • Minimum of 5 years’ recent experience value selling into the specialty minerals market: you understand the stakeholders, processes and wider value proposition beyond a commodity sale.  
  • Meaningful recent sales/sales management experience in Abrasive Blast Media, Foundry Products, Roofing Materials and Specialty Aggregates market segments strongly preferred; at a minimum, experience with similar/relevant/transferable market experience is essential. 
  • Proven success as both a strategic sales leader and individual direct relationship builder/sales hunter is ESSENTIAL– this is a player-coach role. 
  • You have opened new territories and/or introduced new product lines (vs. strictly managing/servicing existing accounts), and you have successfully kept a small sales team on track, focused and motivated. 
  • Experience creating and quantifying value propositions for differentiated products is very helpful. 
  • Experience working with distributor channel partners is a strong plus but not essential. 
  • Comfortable in a small company environment, you have plenty of initiative and entrepreneurial attitude: you make things happen, not just watch them happen. 
  • Live anywhere in the US but must be close to a major airport to travel to customers across West Coast, Mountain States, and the Midwest. 
  • Willing to travel overnight up to 50% of the time. More travel in the beginning will be required in order to build rapport with the sales team and key customers.  
  • Positive paradigm, collaborative natural style, and a good sense of humor are also essential.
